Green Wave Brass Band
The Green Wave Brass Band (GWBB) is a select Tulane Bands ensemble that studies, rehearses, and performs New Orleans Traditional Jazz and Modern Brass Band music through an immersive learning and playing experience. Under the direction of Andy Bower and Andrew Szypula, the Tulane and Loyola University students in the GWBB learn and study the musical traditions of New Orleans by working and performing side-by-side with professional New Orleans musicians and culturebearers. Musicians from acts such as Rebirth Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band, Big 6 Brass Band, TBC Brass Band and others have sat in with our students at performances and rehearsals.
The GWBB is a Glazer Club favorite at Tulane football games and performs regularly for numerous campus recruiting and sporting events. Off campus, the band keeps a busy performing schedule for weddings, birthdays, parades, and corporate events.
Most recently, the band performed for the Washington, D.C. Mardi Gras Ball at the invitation of the Tulane President’s Office. The GWBB also shook up multiple events as a part of Tulane University’s appearance and championship in the 2023 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
The band has appeared regularly in krewedelusion, Krewe of Barkus, and the New Orleans Rock and Roll Half Marathon. In 2016, members performed alongside New Orleans legend Wendell Brunious as a part of the Shakespeare 400 Festival in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and they were featured in the second season of MTV International's show "The Brothers Green - Eats!".
The Green Wave Brass Band is a dynamic group of Tulane students and professionals that offers great musical entertainment that can spice up your event in a way that can only come from New Orleans.
