Color guard
An integral part of the TUMB, the Tulane University Color Guard learns four different halftime shows each fall, and performs at all football home games and one away game each year. This diverse group welcomes performers of all skill levels to spin flags, swing flags, rifles, and sometimes a few surprises (like ribbons or maces) during the fall season.
In the spring, the Color Guard joins the TUMB for Mardi Gras parades, a unique experience that our members always enjoy.
After the Mardi Gras season is over, the Color Guard works on their own stage performance to showcase their talents. In 2018, we performed to live music at the Marigny Opera House!
How to Join the TUMBCG
Because so many of our members come from out-of-state, we have video auditions. All prospective members should learn the flag technique exercises and flag choreography (find links below). Email a link to a video of you performing it all to our instructor, Rosalind Kidwell, with the subject line "TUMBCG Audition." In the body of the email, please include your name and list your colorguard experience.
If you spin rifle, you may also include videos of those exercises and choreography in your email(find those videos below as well). Everyone is required to submit flag videos, but rifle is optional.
Your videos don't need to be perfect, they just need to give us a good idea of your skill level. We consider ourselves to be an inclusive and educational ensemble. If you have a positive attitude, want to work hard to be a part of the group, and can show that you are ready to learn, we want you as a member.
You DO need to register for Marching Band in the Fall! Please do this ASAP (before you submit your audition videos)! Once you register, please email the Director of Bands to let him know you want to be a member of the Colorguard. Please have your audition videos completed and emailed by June 30. If you have missed the above deadline, but still want to audition, please contact the TUMBCG instructor.
Scholarships are available for any Tulane student who is a registered member of the band. Email the Director of Bands, Barry Spanier for more information.
